What is Orthodontics?
Orthodontic problems can be caused by genetics, some misbehaviors (such as thumb sucking) in childhood, early caries or lost teeth, gum disease, unilateral (right or left jaw) and chewing habits.
We can solve many cases at an early age with FJO (functional jaw orthopedics) treatment, by preventing orthodontic problems before they ocurr.
Even if you are an adult, we still have a chance for treatment for you.
Contrary to popular belief, there is no age limit for orthodontic treatment. With the developing technology, it has come to a very advanced point in terms of both aesthetics and treatment time. In many cases, without age limit, dental crowding can be visibly corrected in 3-5 months.
As we mentioned above, we can apply it successfully at any age and can classify orthodontic treatment methods as follows.
1- Orthodontics with Transparent Aligners: This treatment method, also known as Invisalign, is the method we usually recommend to our adult patients. The biggest advantages of this method are that it is almost invisible, it is extremely comfortable, the treatment time is short and we can see the result digitally at the end of the treatment.
When our patients come to the clinic, the procedures we do are as follows. Following the detailed examination of our specialist physicians, intraoral and extraoral pictures are taken, sensitive measurements and x-ray images are added to this and sent for analysis. In the analysis, measurements and plans are made digitally. The result of the plan is seen on the screen, necessary corrections are made. In this way, we have the chance to see in advance how many weeks it will take before the treatment starts and what will happen at the end.
Treatment consists of a series of plaques. For example, let’s talk about a case that will be treated with 16 plaques. Our patients use each of the plaque sorted by numbers for 10-14 days. Dıscards the used aligner and moves on to the next new one.
Each plaque straightens the teeth with small movements. After using the 16 plaques, we will see the result in the digital plan and this treatment will be finished in 5-8 months. In the treatment with transparent aligners, we often get rid of a monthly check. We give our patients their aligners. Since we have the opportunity to do our check-up through phone , the pictures that the patients will take and send to us will be enough, same service is valid for our patients that live abroad.
2- Orthodontics with Brackets and Wires: In this treatment, brackets are attached to each tooth by making individual measurements. Then the braces are attached to these brackets. It is a very advantageous method for very short-term treatments of 3-5 months, especially in preparation for smile design.

Then ceramic – porcelain braces that are much less visible or lingual braces that are not visible at all are just for you.In very few cases, the problems can be very advanced. In this case, we can resort to orthodontic surgery.
Regardless of the method, there is a little change in speech until the cheeks and tongue get used to it at first. However, this is not at a significant level and passes in a short time.
Although there is no ban on eating and drinking, there are some things to be aware of. In the treatment with transparent plaques, there is no need to remove the plaques when consuming soft foods (yogurt, banana, etc.) and drinks. There is no restriction on eating and drinking, as far as we remove the plaques while consuming solid food.
If braces will be applied , cutting the food we eat into slices, eating after removing the seeds of the foods that contain seeds (olive, plum, cherry, etc.) it will eliminate the risk of breakage.
Oral care does not change with transparent aligners. However, we should brush more carefully as brackets and wires make it difficult to brush our teeth. We recommend that you reduce the consumption of acidic and sugary foods since it decreases the brushing quality.
It is possible for some of our patients to have partial sensitivity and pain during the treatment process. It varies according to the level of the ordodontic problem, but it is temporary.
No matter which method is applied, there is always the possibility fort the teeth to go back to their former state. Reinforcement therapy should be applied to reduce or prevent this possibility. For reinforcement, the teeth are fixed with a thin wire that is invisible only from the inside of the front teeth. In addition, it is recommended to use a reinforcement plaque at night for a while.
